Meet Me!
Hello/ Kia Ora, my name is Gemma Downie and I am a Chartered Physiotherapist and yoga instructor.

I am passionate about helping others improve their mental and physical wellbeing through a number of evidence-based approaches including yoga, meditation, relaxation and breathing techniques.

I have always been an active person and those who know me will agree I often fill my weeks and weekends to be as busy and active as possible. As a teenager I was learning how to balance my busy school life, social life and swim training regularly. When we were told to stretch off in the showers after training, this would be code to stand and chat to my teammates (you know who you are). Looking back on this we were all putting our young, growing bodies through some serious miles and work, we were lucky really that there were only a few minor injuries. Once I stepped away from training and began coaching others I started to realise how important it was to look after our bodies both physically and mentally. So I started to look at a career in physiotherapy.

I studied at Northumbria University where I balance working as a lifeguard, squash training and again social life. However, I began regularly using yoga and meditation to help combat stress and improve flexibility . Following university I worked in the NHS for 2 years throughout the COVID pandemic and with a number of lockdowns, stress at work and other more personal reasons yoga and meditation became the most important thing in keeping me sane.
